ISEE Tutoring & Test Prep
Since we started out of a Rice University dorm room in 2003, General Academic has helped thousands of Houston-area students prepare for the ISEE private school admissions test.
We offer both private one-to-one tutoring and group test prep classes. Private tutoring can occur in your home or at our Rice Village Study Lounge.
Our ISEE tutors are among our most talented Peers and Pros:
Private ISEE Tutoring in Home or Office
Private ISEE tutoring ensures that your student is only spending precious time on the areas where they need help. Typically, students meet for 1.5 to 3-hours a week.
We will start by identifying your student's strengths and weaknesses by having them take a full-length practice test; we offer these on most Sundays at no-charge.
Then the tutor will work with your student to address shortcomings and reinforce skills in the tested subjects in math and reading.
To maximize skill retention, the tutor will assign homework questions for the student to complete in-between sessions; it's optional but strongly recommended.
ISEE Test Prep Classes in the Rice Village
Test prep classes are a great way for students to get a broad overview of the ISEE and refresh tested concepts. Classes typically meet for 6 to 9 hours a week.
Our classes are capped at just 8 students meaning that every student will get tons of attention from the instructor, and every student receives a personalized study plan.
The course will cover test-taking strategies and help students refresh their skills in math and reading. There is significant instructor-led practice.
Take the ISEE Early and Often
Students should actively start preparing for the ISEE by the summer before they plan to apply to a private school; they can now take the test up to 3 times a year.
The ISEE is offered three times a year, and students can take it all three times. Parents can wait to get the scores before submitting it to a school for evaluation.
Extensive research on college admissions tests shows that students consistently score better each time they took the test, so there's no reason to take the ISEE just once.

ISEE Test Taking Strategies
The best predictors of a student's success on the ISEE are good grades in school in core academic subjects like math, science, English, and history.
Therefore the best way for a student to prepare is to ensure that they're doing well in core subjects well before a few months before they plan to take the ISEE.
