Do you remember how to write a poem in iambic pentameter or decipher the unknown angle of a supplementary triangle?  The Study Lounge is a new concept that combines the feel of a cozy coffee house with the support of our brilliant tutor Analysts.  It is a place to get work done and questions answered.  No appointment is required; when your student needs help, just show up and sign-in.
 
Our Study Lounge is to middle and high school students what the student union or coffee house is to college students--only better.  It is a place to be free from the distractions of siblings, pets, television, and video games.  It is a safe and nourishing environment to ask questions and get help from our super talented tutor Analysts.  It is a space that is comfortable with its mix of leather armchairs, kitchen counter-tops, and cafe tables.  Best of all, a subscription to our Study Lounge is the best way to stay on top and ahead of increasingly large and difficult homework loads without frustrating both you and your student.
 
 
How it Works
 
  1. Check-In and Agenda.  When your student checks-in, our tutor Analyst will work with him to set a task-list with clear desired outcomes and expectations.
  2. Questions and Productivity.  When your student has a question, he need only turn to one of our tutor Analysts and ask for help.  Alternatively, our staff will continually check-in to make sure that your student is working diligently, thoroughly, and comprehending the material.
  3. Communication.  If you have special requests or documents you'd like for our staff to see, you can e-mail them.  For subscribers, our tutor Analysts will update your student's portal with notes including the agenda, completed, and uncompleted tasks. 
 
The Study Lounge is fully equipped to handle any and all homework needs including high-speed wireless Internet, computers, color laser printer, scanner, fax and more.
 
 
Who/ What It's For
 
Students who regularly need a combination of supervision and support.  Middle school students are especially well suited to this environment, but high school students having trouble staying on task are also great candidates for this service.
    Strong students who enjoy having access to a great study environment and fantastic tutors who can help them gain a deeper understanding and even get ahead.
     
    Last minute needs and deadlines.  If you don't usually work with a private tutor or your tutor couldn't make it, the Study Lounge is a good way to ensure that your student is still prepared for tomorrow's big test or gets through that long project.  
     
    Structured improvement of academic skills.  We can develop a custom study plan to help improve your student's reading or math skills over a defined period of time. 
     
    The Lounge is, however, not a replacement for dedicated one-to-one tutoring for students who need constant personal attention or intense help in a single subject matter.  Also, Study Lounge Analysts are generally capable in all academic subjects through Calculus AB and Physics E&M.  Please contact us if you will be needing help in more advanced subjects and foreign languages.
     
     
    Availability and Costs
     
    The Study Lounge is open Sunday-Thursday 4-9pm and Saturday 12-5pm.  It is closed on Fridays.  No-appointment necessary access is available via monthly subscription or day pass:
     
    • Unlimited Access is available through a monthly subscription for $700 (as low as $6 per hour)
    • A Day Pass provides unlimited use for one day at $79 (as low as $16 per hour)

    We occupy the entire third floor of this new construction.  Free parking is available in front.  There is an elevator in the building.  We have great, panoramic views of Rice University, downtown, and the medical center.
    		 We have seating for more than thirty students in leather couches and armchairs, at high wood block tables, laptop stations, and cafe tables.  There is free wi-fi internet, plenty of power plugs, and office supplies.


    We make it easy to stay the entire afternoon with our kitchenette that offers students complimentary snacks and beverages.  A big printer + scanner is available to students.
    		 Our Study Lounge is fully equipped with the latest technology including iMacs, printer, scanner, and copier.  We also provide most school supplies that your child might need such as pens, pencils, paper, paper clips, and calculators.
